These glorious new galleries sweep us through the decorative and fine arts from the fall of the Roman Empire in the West c 400AD, to the Medieval age of faith and out into the Renaissance.

Medieval treasures include the ivory cover for Lorsch Gospels carved at the court of Charlemagne; an 11th century Limoges enamel casket made for the bones of Saint Thomas a Becket; 15th century carved English alabasters, must-have artworks fashionable throughout Europe; and the Devonshire Hunting Tapestry which depicts flirting and high fashion in the forests of the Dukes of Burgundy.

The Renaissance is represented by a  wonderfully tender marble panel, sculpted in low relief by Donatello, the most influential sculptor of 15th century Italy, of the Ascension with Christ giving the keys to St Peter  and an entire gallery devoted to the Renaissance City 1350 – 1600, filled with large scale sculpture, evoking church, villa and garden.

The event is limited to 16 people so please book asap!
