Please join other CBS Alumni on October 29th at 6:30pm for a zoom discussion about how heightened geopolitics, challenging macro fundamentals, and structural change are affecting global trade and investment opportunities.
Our expert panel includes Ketan Patel, CEO of Greater Pacific Capital and Dr. Chantal Carpentier, Head of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD). After a brief intro from our panelists on how their organizations are managing in the current environment and planning for the future, they will participate in a guided discussion, followed by a Q&A from the audience.
Topics for discussion include:
  • The effects of Covid-19 on global trade & development
  • Implications of ESG investing and stakeholder capitalism on global trade
  • How a changing New World Order affects specific geographies & sectors
  • How markets are planning for the upcoming U.S. election
  • The emerging power struggle and structure between the US, China, EU, India and lessons from the past, including the new world order and what it means for key relationships, core great powers and others including UK/Brexit, Japan, the Middle East and others
 
The panel discussion will be moderated by Angela Paulk (CBS’10) and is curated by Nicolas Kahale (CBS’ 81).
Ketan Patel is a co-founder and the CEO of Greater Pacific Capital, where he is responsible for overall firm strategy, leads the firm’s research and ideas team and heads the firm’s Investment Committee.  Prior to founding Greater Pacific Capital in 2005, Mr. Patel was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs, where he founded the firm’s Strategic Group. Based in London and New York, he also covered clients in Asia, developing and providing strategic advice to the firm’s corporate, investing and government clients across multiple industries.  Formerly, Mr. Patel was a Partner at KPMG, where he was a member of the Board of Directors and the firm’s European Strategy Team.  Mr. Patel graduated with a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics has an MBA from the City University Business School.
 
Dr. Chantal Line Carpentier currently serves as Chief, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) New York office of the Secretary-General since 2014. Prior to 2014, as Major Groups Coordinator for the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) Division for Sustainable Development, she facilitated the engagement of and consultation with worldwide non-State actors (NGOs, women’s groups, business and industry, etc.) in the Sustainable Development Goals negotiations and the UN Rio+20 Conference. Prior to joining the United Nations, she worked as Head, Environment, Economy and Trade Division of the North American Free Trade Agreement Commission for Environmental Cooperation, as policy analyst for the Wallace Institute for Alternative Agriculture and as postdoctoral fellow for the International Food Policy Research Institute in the Brazilian Amazon. Dr. Carpentier obtained her PhD. in Agricultural and Environmental Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as well as both her MSc. and BSc. in Agriculture Economics from McGill University.
