We all know that digital transformation is no longer the preserve of tech companies and start-ups. It’s something all businesses need to focus on but, as Sunil Gupta, HBS professor and author of Driving Digital Strategy says, reimagining your business in the digital era is no easy task. It’s clear that business leaders can no longer expect success while treating 'digital' as separate from their overall strategy. They need to be bold and lead with a digital-first mentality in which the digital strategy touches all aspects of the organization. With this approach, established firms can mitigate the threat as well as leverage the opportunities of the digital era.

Professor Gupta will outline his road map to the transformation process, encouraging leaders to rethink the four fundamental aspects of their businesses: the business strategy, value chain, customers, and organizational structure and capabilities.

He will draw on a decade of research and consulting at Harvard Business School and give examples of large companies in traditional industries who have succeeded at digitizing their businesses in truly transformative ways - among them the New York Times, Best Buy and Goldman Sachs.
Sunil Gupta is the Edward W. Carter Professor of Business Administration and Chair of the General Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is also the Co-Chair of the Executive Program on Driving Digital Strategies. His current research is in the area of digital technology and its impact on consumer behaviour and firm strategy and previously on customer management, pricing, and return on marketing investment. He has published two books and over 80 articles, book chapters, cases and notes on these topics

Sunil advises and speaks to companies around the world, including Adidas, IBM, Heineken, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, PwC, TD Bank, Turkcell, and Vodafone, and frequently appears on national and international television programs.

Prior to joining Harvard, Sunil was the Meyer Feldberg Professor of Business at Columbia Business School and Assistant Professor at UCLA. In 1996, Sunil spent his sabbatical with McKinsey & Co. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.
