Wharton Goes to the English National Opera
La Traviata
We are delighted to invite you to a special evening at the opera at the Coliseum, courtesy of English National Opera. We will be seeing Verdi's masterpiece, La Traviata.
Synopsis
La traviata tells the story of the tragic love between the courtesan Violetta and the romantic Alfredo Germont. Violetta turns her back on a life of glamour, style and standing for the man she loves. But upper-class fashionable society, feeling itself spurned, decides it’s not a suitable match. Alfredo and Violetta’s love threatens to shame his family. His father directly appeals to Violetta to relinquish her one chance of happiness. Violetta submits and her act of self-sacrifice leads to her paying the ultimate price.
