Wharton Club UK is organising a walking tour of the historic City of London. It will offer an opportunity to socialise with other members of the club and learn about the ancient history of the city most of us now call home.
The route of the tour will be as follows:
- St Bartholomews the Great 900 year old Norman
- Postmans Park- Memorial to Heroic acts of self-sacrifice
- Noble street- Roman Wall
- Guildhall- Home of the City of London Corporation and Roman Amphitheatre
- Old Jewry- Former Jewish Quarter and Mercers Livery company
- Bank Junction- History of Finance
- Jamaica Wine house- First ever coffee house and history of slavery.
- Monument/London Stone- Great Fire of London
- Bloomberg- Temple of Mithras and Financial sector
- St Pauls Cathedral
- Fleet street- History of the Press
The cost of tickets will be £20 per person (£15 pp for recent alumni* which will be via a reimbursement) and the proceeds from this event will go to supporting Speak Street https://speak-street.com/ a charity providing free tuition of English to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in London.
The tour will be led by Joanna who works at Speak Street and is also a certified tour guide. Plus ones are welcome.
The tour will focus on the Square Mile, starting at Barbican Tube Station and end at the old Cheshire Cheese Pub on Fleet Street (the oldest pub in London) where people can optionally choose to have lunch and where a table will be booked for the group.
