You will hear directly from Sir Vince about his findings and analysis in his latest book "Eclipsing the West: China, India and the forging of a new world". There will be engaging and in-depth discussion and Q&A in addition to his talk. Please note that the Chatham House Rule will apply thoughtout this event.

About Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable:

Sir Vince Cable is a prominent British academic, author, and senior politician. He served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in the Coalition Government from 2010 to 2015 and the Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2017 to 2019. He was Member of Parliament for Twickenham from 1997 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2019. Earlier in his career, he was a Glasgow City Councillor and later became Special Adviser to John Smith.

In addition to his career as a Coalition Cabinet Minister and politician, he worked as Chief Economist at Shell International from 1995 to 1997, having previously held senior planning roles within the company. Prior to that, he was Head of Economics at Chatham House (1993–95), and spent much of the 1980s in international development and diplomatic policy roles, including as Special Adviser to the Commonwealth Secretary-General. He began his career as a finance officer in Kenya’s Treasury as an ODI Fellow.

He currently holds Visiting Professorships at the LSE, Nottingham and St Mary’s universities and Shenzhen University in China. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI Global) and Honorary Fellow of Fitzwilliam College Cambridge and the City Lit in London.

Sir Vince is also a prolific author. His best-known books include "Money and Power" (2021), "The Chinese Conundrum" (2021), "How to be a Politician" (2022), and "Eclipsing the West" (2025). He was knighted in 2015.
